Missy, Hayley and Nana Booth dance arround the living room to Meat Loaf - Bat Out of Hell. It's evident that they'd be lost without her. Lila drops Nasreen off at the top of her street after a night spent together. Iqbal catches Nas sneaking in, and she tells him she's been helping Missy with homework. He tells her he needs an answer soon about the arranged marriage, and she tells him no. The next morning, Hayley leaves the house early and Missy heads upstairs to get Nana out of the bath. Walking into the bathroom, she finds her dead. Nas notices Missy is in her own world walking to school. Will flirts with Lila, but she's too focussed on Nas. Steve gives Jordan a DNA test, but he's unsure how he'll be able to get a swab from Jamie. Missy has visions of Nana in class. Lila is abrupt with Nasreen in class when she tells her she's told Missy. Nasreen reassures her that it won't get out about their relationship. Steve tries to think up a plan for the school to support Jordan. Missy returns home at lunch and is unsure what to do about Nana. Will happily assists Lila in her lunchtime detention session, and Nas drops in to say sorry, but is called away by Missy who breaks the news about Nana.
Missy doesn't know what to do about Nana, worried that social services will take Hayley away if they find out about her death. Nasreen convinces her to report the death. Mandy contacts Candice's social worker to ask about Jordan's access to Jamie. At the Booth house, a doctor calls by to confirm Nana's death, and Missy lies to say that she lives with her mum, who is working a long shift in a biscuit factory. Next door, Kaneez asks whether the news about Nana Booth is true, and Nas insists she keeps her death a secret. Missy breaks the news about Nana's heart attack to a heartbroken Hayley, who wants their mum informed. Missy instructs her that nobody must know and they must continue life like nothing's happened.
The next day in class, Lila shouts at Hayley for not doing work and she walks out. Emma quizzes Hayley for her actions and wonders why Missy isn't in school. She tells her it's because of period pains - but she's actually at a funeral directors where she is told that she can't afford a service. Candice arrives in the school yard with the pram and tells Jordan to drop the DNA test idea or she'll set her brother's on him... but little does she know he's already stolen Jamie's dummy to get a swab from it. Will continues to set his sights on Lila by handing her a heart shaped biscuit. She refuses it, saying she's gluten intolerant and admits that she's gay. He walks off in embarrassment and tells Steve, who is overhead by school receptionist/gossip Lorraine. Emma tells Mandy she admires her for forgiving Steve after his affair.
Missy tells Simone about Nana. She has an idea to move in with the girls and be a proper mother, but Missy storms out. Next day in the school yard, it's evident that everyone knows about Lila's sexuality, but she's more concerned that everyone knows about her relationship with Nas. Chloe and Missy have a disagreement and Emma is determined to get to the bottom of it. Missy asks Emma to lend her £1,000 needed for the funeral service. Emma has no choice but to call social services, but Missy pleads her for more time. She considers it. At the funeral directors, Missy hands over the money but is told that she can't attend the service or get the ashes as it'll cost more money.
Lila is the subject of ridicule in her class and sends some of the boys to isolation. She comes clean to the pupils about her sexuality, and tells them it's none of their business. Nas wishes it was as easy for her to come out. Lila ends the relationship between them. Nasreen returns home and overhears her family talking about Lila's seuxality - she's furious. Next door, Missy finds Simone sat on the sofa watching television with Missy. In a burst of rage, Missy pulls Simone out into the street and starts to fight. Kaneez breaks it up and warns the neighbours off. Later that night, Hayley and Missy cuddle into eachother in bed and apologise.
Kaneez tells Mandy about Nana, who goes mad with Emma for not reporting the death to child protection. She warns she could get fired. Emma asks Mandy to hold off until after the cremation before calling social services. Missy steals clothes from the market for the memorial they've decided to hold in Nana's memory. Emma takes Missy, Hayley and Nasreen up to the hillside where they watch smoke billowing out of the crematorium. The two girls sing Bat Out of Hell as Emma and Nas watch their life crumble down around them. Later in the evening, Iqbal takes Nas for a milkshake to cheer her up after a tough few days helping Missy. She texts Lila who tells her to never contact her again. Iqbal says he'll support his daughter through anything. Realising that she has no future with Miss Shariff, she enquires about the boy from the Pakistani village.
The following morning, a social services representitive arrives at the school and informs Hayley that she is to go and live with a foster family in Bradford. Missy is heartbroken that she's going to lose her sister. Hayley refuses to leave, but Missy tells her to leave to try and make the situation easier. The two sisters have a parting moment between the car window as Hayley is driven off to her new life. At the end of the day, Mandy breaks down in the car with Steve, and comes clean about sleeping with Sadiq. Emma knocks on the door at the Booth house, and leaves Nana's ashes on the doorstep for Missy.
